Women and have more rights in Jewish religion than most people think.
The position of women in halakhah (Jewish Law) dates back to the biblical period, which is way better than the positions of women under
American civil laws as recently as about a century ago. Many important feminist leaders in the 20th century, like Gloria Steinem and Betty Friedan, are Jewish women. Some commentators have suggested that this is to be expected, since the level of respect to women in Jewish tradition was a part of their regular culture. Women are for the most part seen as separate but equal. Though women's obligations and responsibilities are different from those of the men, they are not less important. In fact, in some areas the women's responsibilities are more important than the men's. Women are suppose to take care of the house and all it's needs while men go out and back bringing in the money and supporting the house. While women can also and do also do this their main priority is their house.
